Ways to Conserve Your Cell Phone Battery

How often do you find yourself in a situation where your phone barely has any charge and there’s no way to power it up?

More often than not, huh?! Well, we’ve all been in this tight spot at some point of time or the other. The most unfortunate and ironic thing about it is that it always seems to happen when we have no alternatives or a backup plan in place! Well, that’s the thing with smartphones…they can pretty much do everything but with a battery power that can’t quite keep up! But worry not, we’ve put together some really simple hacks that will help you conserve your cell phone battery for when you need it the most!

Dim The Lights

When you see the battery levels of your phone going downhill, the first thing you should do is go into settings and reduce brightness. Higher levels of brightness cause the battery to drain faster leaving you with little or no charge when you need it the most – so, the brighter your screen, the harder your phone works to keep it lit. if you have an “auto-brightness” option in your phone (iPhones and some Android phones have this feature) turn it on and let your device take the call of when it has to turn it up or mellow it down. Besides, not only is it good for your phone battery, you go easy on your eyes as well!

Vibration Off

What would you do without the vibration mode on our cell phones? Without it, you’d probably miss more than half of the calls and messages, right? However, apart from being a great asset to your phone, it is also a battery guzzler. Your phone battery uses up a lot of its power to physically move when it vibrates, especially if it vibrates on notifications as well as messages and phone calls. Interestingly, it has been said that allowing your phone to vibrate on your person can have some adverse health issues as well. So the next time you see your phone battery is about to die on you, turn off the vibration mode. In fact, try making it a habit so that you keep it off at all times.

Be Cool

Phone batteries work best when they are kept away from really warm temperatures and direct sunlight, basically a little bit below room temperature is what is ideal. For example, when you leave your phone inside a hot car or in places that have direct sunlight, it runs a faster chance of losing its charge than when you keep it inside your pocket or in a cover. So, the next time your phone runs out of battery on a hot sunny day, you know what to do. Instead of getting all hot and bothered, keep it cool!

Background Much

Do you love the wallpaper on your phone? Does your screensaver make you laugh every time it comes on? Well, as entertaining and pleasing as they may be, brightly coloured backgrounds and screen-savers eat into your battery life to a great extent. Phones use up more battery lighting up white and light colours and less battery displaying black or dark colours. In fact, if there’s anything worse than this for your phone battery, is dynamic and animated screensaver. So, if you think of it, dark and mysterious has its own advantages, right?!

Automatic Lock

Now this is probably one of the first things that you do when you get a cell phone, turn on automatic lock. However, if you don’t then we suggest that you make it a practice. While on automatic lock, your phone actually conserves battery energy as opposed to when it is left lit when not in use. The trick is to change the settings on your phone so that it auto-locks itself in 30 seconds or under. If you are an iPhone user look for an option called “auto-lock” and if you’re on android, then an option called ‘screen timeout’, that’ll do the trick.

Cell phones, can’t live with them, can’t do without them. So, might as well make the best of what you can when you have them, what say?!
