What’s It About Winters That Makes Our Hearts Sing

Deck the halls with boughs of holly, Fa la la la la, la la la la!

You can’t leave the house without a sweater, there’s a nip in the air and you don’t know why, but at the end of every day you just can’t wait to get back home, curl up under the blanket with a good book and a hot cup of tea. Well, we have a theory, it’s because – WINTER IS HERE! Winter has got to be one of the most awaited seasons of the year and for good reasons. The days become shorter, overcoats, sweater and our favourite winter wear comes out of the closets, we get to celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s and in general the mood is light, happy and full of excitement and good will. Winters make our hearts sing and swell with joy, the food seems better, time spent with friends and family, sweeter and you can’t help but have a skip in your step, no matter how many deadlines you may have coming up. Right now is the time when all winter lovers are rubbing their hands in glee – gearing up for the most wonderful time of the year, having finally put the sweltering summers behind. The perfect winters day can make even the worst case of Monday blue’s go away, it can make the week seem not as bad as it does and is the silver lining that we’re looking for on a cloudy day. If you’re one of them, then you know what we’re talking about, but if you’re wondering what’s it about winters that makes our hearts sing, then maybe these reasons can convince you that it’s time to chill out because winters are here!

Cosy Weekend Mornings

What’s it about winter mornings that fill you with so much happiness? Is it the waking up to the mellow sunlight filtering in through the curtains, bright but not too bright like the intense summer sun or is it the warm, comforting embrace of your blanket that makes you never want to get out of bed? To each his own, but the one thing that’s for sure, is the fact that few can compare to it. And while it is hard to wake up on a winter morning, it kind of makes up for it by allowing you to laze around as much as you can on the weekends. Nothing can beat cosy winter mornings during the weekend!

Hot Chocolate & Cutting Chai

We said there are very few things that can be compared to a cosy weekend winter morning, well, here’s one of them. Winter is the season for cutting chai and hot chocolate. Be it at work, at night before tucking into bed or during weekend brunch, the only word to describe snuggling up with a steaming hot cup of cutting chai or hot chocolate with marshmallow bits under the winter sun, is bliss! Whether you are a broke college student, or a busy corporate employee – whether it is a cutting chai from the chai-wala by the street, or a mug of hot chocolate from a café nearby – the few minutes of sipping this steaming beverage is pure joy.

Bonfires & Barbeques

Winters, good food, great conversations and time spent with loved ones is a combination made in heaven. The one thing that we all are in search for during the cold months is a little bit of warmth. The winter chill is great and the only things that makes us enjoy the nip in the air even more is having something warm wrapped around us or near us, which is why bonfires and barbeques are so perfect during this time of the year. Just imagine spending weekends and wintry evenings huddled around a fire cooking up a storm with friends and family, it’s about as perfect as it gets!

Travel Galore

Winter is the perfect time to travel and this isn’t just an assumption, it’s a fact! Having a perfectly good vacation ruined because of unbearable heat or a torrential downpour can be a real downer. Which is why, winter is perfect! It’s not hot, you can move around and go exploring without getting tired too quickly, the chances of rain are very minimal and let’s admit it, the first wave of the chilly air that greets you when you step out of the airport or the train station is invigorating. Whether you’re packing off to the Himachal for the snow or to Goa for a gala beach holiday, during winter the possibilities are endless!

Christmas & New Years

Last but not the least, what makes winter so epic that it’s the king of holiday season. From Thanksgiving to Christmas and New Year’s (it’s ok to consider Christmas and New Year’s eve as separate holidays as well!) there’s always a reason to celebrate and make merry during these months. From Christmas carols to the rush of last minute holiday shopping, from New Year’s resolutions to the promise of a new beginning, winter is when ‘Silent Night’ and ‘Auld Lang Syne’ come together to create memories that remain special forever. Which is why, winter remains undisputed as the most festive season ever!

It really is the reason to be jolly!
